Why You'll Love It
Over
eighteen acres of established pasture is fenced and has a pond on it. Use it
for hay production or put cows on it. It is easy to get to with a paved road on
one side and a gravel road on the other. Property has electric poles on it and
SPG water line running along one side. The land lays level to gently sloping
and furnishes multiple build sites for a country home. It is about 5 miles from
the Ozark town of Saint Joe and less than 10 miles from launching a canoe on
the Buffalo National River at the Grinders Ferry access point.
During a 26 year career as an engineering officer in the US Merchant Marine I had opportunity to visit 53 countries and many of the contiguous United States plus Hawaii and Alaska. I did not find any place that I would prefer to live year around more than these Ozark hills here in Marion County Arkansas. Let me show you some land while I tell you about the rivers and lakes as well as the cavern systems and thousands of acres of public forest for hiking and exploring.
I like the four seasons we have and what each new season has to share like wild mushroom gathering in spring and especially fall, a variety of hunting and fishing experiences, and gardening. My wife and I are avid gardeners (met as vendors at Yellville’s own farmer’s market) and grow most of our meat as well. We take satisfaction in knowing we have access to healthy food and practice living close to the land by canning and drying a lot of our surplus vegetables and even meat. We supplement the food we raise from the abundant variety of game and fish found here through hunting, fishing and wild harvesting.
I am a graduate of the Arkansas Master Naturalist program and have a fascination for the rocks and minerals here as well as the flora and fauna. It is hard to beat an afternoon wading up one of the many clear, gravel or rock bottomed creeks in the area looking to see what is under the next rock or in the next deep pool or growing alongside the cool water.
I built my own house here in 1996 and live in it now. I lived off the grid for 3 years and have an interest in things pertaining to alternative energy.
Let me show you some houses or just raw land and share my knowledge of the area and my love for it. You will see why this is where I set roots over 25 years ago and have raised my children here.
